(EGFM) is an environmentally friendly filter medium and an alternative to sand; made from glass recycled in the UK, it involves no intrusive extraction or use of scarce resources. EGFM holds green certifications and, thanks to its excellent performance, is also cost-effective compared to sand.

EGFM is more efficient:

Savings on backwashing reduce the cost of water, energy and chemical treatment. The angular to sub-angular particle shape and bound quartz content provide 30% better turbidity removal compared to quartz sand.

As a rule, it removes finer particles from the water than an equivalent quartz sand.

Its non-porous composition means it is less likely to "clump" than quartz sand.

Thanks to excellent permeability, backwashing takes less time, saving on water/sewage, electricity and chemical treatment costs.

The physical and chemical properties of the media comply with DSTU EN 15798:2020 (EN 15798:2020, IDT). Chemicals used for treatment of swimming pool water. Filter media.

EGFM stays clean: it is less susceptible to biofouling because, unlike quartz sand, EGFM particles have a smooth surface, so bacteria cannot get into cracks or defects, which means less corrective action and, again, less chemical treatment to eliminate contamination.

Less EGFM is needed: it is less dense than sand and requires 15% less media to fill an equivalent filter.
