The three-point rule
Walls are rarely perfectly straight: an opening can be 800 mm at the bottom and 815 mm at the top. Measure every dimension in three places and take the smallest value.
- Width — between the left and right jambs: at the bottom (≈20 cm above the floor), in the middle and at the top (≈20 cm below the lintel).
- Height — from the finished floor to the lintel: by the left jamb, in the middle and by the right jamb.
- Wall thickness — at three heights, including plaster or tiles.
If the floor is not laid yet, write down the height from the concrete and the planned floor build-up (screed, underlay, covering). The difference is often 5–8 cm.
Measuring helper
Enter the smallest values and we will suggest an approximate leaf size, frame width and whether you need an extension.
Opening size ≠ door size
The leaf is always smaller than the opening: the frame needs a fitting gap for foam and levelling. Usually the opening is 70–100 mm wider and 45–70 mm taller than the leaf.
With no surcharge we make leaves 400–900 mm wide and 1800–2100 mm high in 50 mm steps, so you do not have to adjust the opening to a “standard”. Width 950–1000 mm and height up to 2300 mm: +20% on the leaf, frame and extension.
Opening side
Stand so the door opens towards you. Hinges on the right — a right-hand door, on the left — a left-hand door. The side is set at production, so specify it for each opening.
What to send the manager
- Room and number of doors.
- Three width and height values and the wall thickness.
- Whether the finished floor is in place.
- Opening side and the model you like.
The manager will check the measurements and choose the size. Not sure? Email a photo of the opening to kvant.doors@gmail.com and we will help.
